Inland Queensland Roads Action Plan (IQ-RAP)

The RDA Townsville and North West Queensland Committee initiated the concept of an inland roads action plan based on consultations with local governments and the success of the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Bruce Highway Action Plan in securing funding commitments over 10 years. RDA engaged with key stakeholders to hold forums in Longreach in December 2013 and Mount Isa in August 2014 to test the need, opportunity and appetite for collaboration on a project which has become known as the Inland Queensland Roads Action Plan (IQ-RAP) project.

IQ-RAP is a bipartisan project funded by 49 partners including 33 local governments, 8 Regional Roads and Transport Groups, 5 RDA Committees, the NQ RDA Alliance and RACQ to drive regional economic development across regional Queensland. The IQ-RAP was publicly launched in Charters Towers in February 2016. An update to the original IQ-RAP is now under way.

This plan is designed to be used as a planning tool to inform future state and national road network and broader transport planning, programs and investment decisions.

RDA provides the Secretariat and project management services on an in-kind basis; the Working Group, made up of representatives from RRTGs, RDAs and RACQ, operates as a board in making key decisions at monthly teleconference meetings.
